How good is Eye of Sol
The base stats on Eye of Sol are solid, only marginally worse than those of Mercurial Overreach, except for its higher aim assist of 68, matching that of Beloved and Cloudstrike. However, the perk pool should draw most of our attention. The first column is okay, but nothing too special. Moving Target is a good perk, and Perpetual Motion is quite popular. Slickdraw is an interesting option, but due to its reduced target acquisition, it isn’t recommended. The second perk column is a bit better, with classics like Opening Shot, Snapshot Sights, and even Keep Away making an appearance.
In PvE, you won’t have much luck with this Sniper. There are no good PvE perks in the first column whatsoever, and the second column only comes with Firing Line, Precision Instrument, or Vorpal Weapon. Eye of Sol also cannot Surge match with any Heavy Weapon, making it a lousy backup DPS option and a poor weapon at dealing with beefy targets.
Overall, Eye of Sol has several strengths in PvP but should be avoided at all costs in PvE.

Eye of Sol PvE god rolls
PvE Roll: All-Around | |
---|---|
Barrel | Fluted Barrel |
Magazine | Appended Mag |
Perk 1 | Air Trigger or Perpetual Motion |
Perk 2 | Precision Instrument or Vorpal Weapon (also good: Firing Line) |
Masterwork | Handling |
Origin Trait | Wild Card |
Improving our Handling is important on all PvE Special weapons, so we opt for Fluted Barrel and a Handling Masterwork to boost the Handling to 71. Appended Mag is also the best choice for our magazine as it increases the total mag size to 5.
Perk 1 barely has anything, so don’t worry too much if you miss out here, but Air Trigger or Perpetual Motion will be the best picks. Air Trigger can boost the Reload Speed of the gun, negating the need for loader mods, and Perpetual Motion gives a general boost overall. Perk 2 provides us with three damage perks. Precision Instrument is the best, but it takes some time to get going. Firing Line is second but requires two teammates, and Vorpal Weapon is the lowest but is active instantly. It is situationally dependent on which is best here, but we believe that Vorpal or Precision Instrument are best due to their ease of use.
Eye of Sol PvP god rolls
PvP Roll: All-Around | |
---|---|
Barrel | Fluted Barrel |
Magazine | Ricochet Rounds |
Perk 1 | Moving Target or Perpetual Motion |
Perk 2 | Opening Shot (also good: Keep Away or Snapshot Sights) |
Masterwork | Stability or Handling |
Origin Trait | One Quiet Moment |
Stability and Handling are essential on Snipers in PvP, so Fluted Barrel is the clear winner here. Ricochet Rounds is also great for a bump to our Stability, and a Stability or Handling Masterwork will help us even more.
Moving Target or Perpetual Motion are your two main options in the first perk column. Moving Target will make hitting your shots as it gives +10 to aim assist, but Perpetual Motion will bring the Stability up to 99, giving you nearly 20% flinch resistance at T10 Resilience, which is nothing to scoff at. Perk 2 has Opening Shot, which is always a standout due to the bumps to Range and aim assist. However, Snapshot Sights and Keep Away are decent alternatives, too, as Snapshot simply feels very nice to use, and Keep Away boosts the weapon’s accuracy when active.
How to get Eye of Sol
Eye of Sol can only be obtained through the Trials of Osiris playlist, which is available each weekend (provided there is no ongoing Iron Banner event). Eye of Sol can be randomly obtained through engrams, which are redeemable at Saint-14, or you can focus it in the engram focusing tab to increase your odds of getting a good roll, but it will cost you some Glimmer, too.
On top of this, should Eye of Sol be the week’s featured weapon, you can obtain an Adept variant of the gun by reaching the Lighthouse. Using a Passage of Perseverance to help you there is recommended for players who might not be as experienced in PvP. We cover the Trials weapon this week here.
